Team Building Workshop

A new colony of White- backed Vulture was found in Argakhachi District of Nepal.
A new colony of White-backed Vulture, a Critically Endangered species was found in Pokhedanda Pine forest of Argha VDC -9, Arghakhanchi district on 21st May, 2010. The colony lies at an average elevation of 1207m and all nests are on the trunks of Pinus roxburghii tree.

Bird Trade Awareness Campaign
Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) organised Bird Trade Awareness Campaign to meet the 2554th Buddha Jayanti (birth anniversary of Lord Buddha) on 27 May 2010 at Tribhuvan University/ Natural History Museum, Swoyambhu Kathmandu. Thousands of Buddhist pilgrims, students and young people participated in the festival. Our target was to aware Buddhist people especially who traditionally release the cage birds and attract bird traders to the Buddhist sites like Swoyambhu and Boudha.

Regional Workshop on Illegal Wild Bird Trade
Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) organized a Regional Workshop on "Illegal Wild Bird Trade" at Hotel Ambassador on 24 May 2010. The main objective of the workshop was to share the findings of the study carried on wild bird trade in Nepal and India among the relevant government agencies and other conservation partners. The study was supported by World Parrot Trust, US and WWF Nepal. This is for the first time such a workshop has been organized.

World Migratory Bird Day 2010 Celebration
Bird Conservation Nepal organized awareness programme at Apollo International Boarding School of New Baneshwor, Kathmandu to mark the World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD). WMBD theme for the year 2010 was "Save all the migratory bird in crisis: Every species counts." Around eighty students participated in the programme enthusiastically.

Diclofenac Destruction Programme
Diclofenac destruction programme kicked off at Jatayau Safe zone Nawalparasi on 31st March 2010 that was organized by Bird Conservation Nepal and Jatayu safe zone management committee. The main objective of the programme was to destroy the diclofenac and promote for safe alternative drug Meloxicam. Diclofenac is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which is widely used by veterinary practitioners for livestock treatment.

Deliberation on the impacts of Climate Change on birds of Nepal
Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) organized one-day workshop entitled "Climate Change Impacts on the Conservation of Birds in Nepal" on 25 January 2010 in Kathmandu. A total of 15 participants representing WWF-Nepal, The Mountain Institute, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Himalayan Nature, Global Primate Network-Nepal (GPN-Nepal) and Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) attended the workshop.

27th Annual General Meeting organised
BCN organised its 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kathmandu on 19 December, 2009. Rallies and shows mark the First International Vulture Awareness day in Nepal

Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) organised various public awareness raising events on September 5, 2009 to celebrate the First International Vulture Awareness Day. The week-long programmes primarily focused on generating awareness amongst the local communities and influencing stakeholders and agencies in positioning the vulture range districts as the diclofenac-free zone. Screening of Winged Migration
Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) organised screening of the award winning movie "Winged Migration" by Jacques Perrin. "Winged Migration" was nominated for 12 awards, including an Oscar for Best Documentary and won 3 awards, including France's prestigious Cesar Award. Screenings were fund raiser for BCN. Screening was carried out at Hotel Manasalu and Summit Hotel on May 23 and May 30, 2009 respectively, which started at 5 pm onwards.

A Birdwatcher's Guide to the Kathmandu Valley

The book consists information with detail map of 14 important birding sites in Kathmandu Valley. It also consists of 463 systematic bird list of the Valley.

The major objective of this Guide is to promote birdwatching in Kathmandu VAlley. It is believed that this guide serves the purpose of effective mode of generating awareness on birds and its habitat conservation amongst majority of Nepali people.
