Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) and Friends of Birds (FoB) jointly organized National Bird Photo Contest and exhibition 2016 with a message “Conservation through exhibition”. The event is supported by Pokhara Bird Society, Bird Education Society, Bardiya Nature Conservtion Club and Koshi Bird Society in association with Himalayan Map House. Altogether 78 photographs were collected from 50 participants in the event. The exhibition from 14 May, 2016 until 22 May, 2016 at Nepal Art Council.
During the inauguration ceremony of the event, Chief Guest Mr. Hari Sharan Nepali “Kazi”, the founder president of Bird Conservation Nepal, highlighted the importance of conservation of birds and shared the history of bird watching in Nepal. Dr. Narendra Man Babu Pradhan, CEO, Bird Conservation Nepal briefed about the importance of this kind of event to support the conservation of the bird species and to show the beauty of birds to general people. “The objective of this event is to increase network and build a bond among organizations that are working towards conservation of birds of Nepal” he added.
Out of the 78 photographs, the first prize was awarded to Mr. Bikash Basnet for his beautifully captured photograph of Eurasian Cuckoo. Similarly, Mr. Padma Sundar Shakya second for Greater Yellow-nape and on third place winner was Mr. Krishna Kaji Prajapati with Bay-blacked Shrike.
One of the newly found species Tibetian Lark is also exhibited in the event. The Rare bird Species awarded to Mr. Naresh Kusi for the photograph of Black-necked Crane. The photograph of the endemic bird of Nepal Spiny Babbler also in the exhibition along with the national bird Lophophorous impejanus in the exhibition.
The aim of the exhibition is to encourage the bird conservation in Nepal and provide the information on birds to the general public meanwhile increasing awareness among general public. It is believed that event like this can be of a great platform to upcoming bird photographers. The organizers are also concerned and working towards taking this event at an international level in the coming future.
