BCN Research Grant- Koshi

Established in 1982, Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) is the leading organization in Nepal, focusing on conservation of birds, their habitats and sites. It seeks to promote interest in birds among the general public, encourage research on birds, and identify major threats to birds’ continued survival. BCN has been undertaking a project entitled "Sustainable management of wetlands and grasslands: enhancing biodiversity and livelihoods" in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve since 2022.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) of Nepal was declared Nepal’s first Ramsar site in 1987 and is an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA). A total of 526 bird species has been recorded in the area out of which 26 are globally threatened species. Wetlands and grasslands constitutes major area of KTWR and are important for wetland and grasslands dependent birds.

BCN invites research proposals from eligible students pursuing their final year studies at Masters level in Zoology, Botany, Forestry, Environment Science, Natural Resource Management or relevant subjects in institutions affiliated to Nepalese Universities and undertaking research as partial fulfillment of their degree. The research grant will primarily cover literature review, field expenses, communications and printing costs. Expenses for participation in trainings/conferences, equipment purchase will not be supported. Besides direct funding, a team of experts from BCN will be on hand for technical backstopping of research work.

Preference will be given to students conducting research on following thematic areas:

· Wetland dependent birds, their threats and conservation issues

· Grassland dependent birds, their threats and conservation issues

Number of Research Grant: 2 (Two)

Study Area: Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve and its bufferzone.

What do you need to submit?

You need to submit a brief curriculum vitae and a short proposal (maximum 4 pages, Times New Roman font size 12 and normal page margins). Proposal should include background, objectives, methodology, budget and work plan of intended research work. Plagiarism in proposal will lead to automatic disqualification.

Research grant amount: Maximum NRS 50,000/- (In word: Fifty thousand only)
